| Early Childhood Studies
|
If you enjoy working with very young children (birth through age 8) you might want to consider early childhood studies. This program prepares teachers for professional roles serving children and their families and includes the Illinois Special Education Approval to teach children with disabilities from three to six years of age. |
| Elementary Education | Elementary education teachers work with children in kindergarten through grade 9. These educators work collaboratively with other school personnel to ensure that all students achieve their highest potential. Many students in this major complete additional course work for the middle school endorsement. This enables them to teach in a specific subject area in grades 5-8. |
| Kinesiology | Fitness, wellness, and athletic training are areas of study in kinesiology. If these are of interest to you, consider studying athletic training or rehabilitative exercise science. Courses in the major include clinicals and practica where you gain hands-on experience. |
| Physical Education | Physical education teachers help students understand fitness and wellness within the physical activity arena and can select from two majors: one focused on grades K-12 or one focused on grades 6-12. Numerous educational practica and experiences with students of different ages and appropriate course work are part of the program. Graduates are prepared to work with elementary, middle, and high school students. |
| Special Education | Special education teachers work with a wide variety of children with special needs ranging from learning disabilities, behavior disorders, vision impairments, and developmental disabilities/multiply disabled. They learn how to adapt curriculum and use many different educational methods to assist children with special needs. |
