Withdrawal Requests after the Deadline

Graduate students should contact the Graduate School regarding this process.

Request for either course withdrawals or university withdrawals after the published deadline are ONLY considered for the following reasons:

  1. Medical
  2. Hardship

Circumstances that are NOT considered include:

  1. Avoidance of a low grade
  2. Lack of evaluation by instructors prior to the withdrawal deadline
  3. Willingness of the instructor to approve the request

You should not assume that your request will be approved. If you want to request consideration for a LATE withdrawal based on either of these reasons, please read the following.

Questions regarding a withdrawal request after the deadline should be directed
to the Director of Advising and Student Services, Graham 327.

  1. If permission for a late withdrawal is granted, the instructor(s) of the
course(s) must decide if it will be a withdrawal passing (W) or a
withdrawal failing (F). A withdrawal marked failing (F) will be figured
into your GPA as an F.

  2. You must continue to attend the course(s) until the withdrawal process
has been finalized. It is your responsibility to confirm that the withdrawal process has been completed.

  3. Students who cease to attend courses in which they are enrolled without officially withdrawing will receive Fs for those courses.

  4. A withdrawal is NOT approved until signed by the Director of Advising
    and Student Services.

  5. A late course withdrawal will NOT be processed under any circumstances after the final exam for the course has been given.

  6. Information regarding the university withdrawal deadline can be found on-line at the Office of the Bursar.

  7. Withdrawing from the university may impact your student financial aid.

  8. Students withdrawing from the university and living in the University Residence Halls must officially check out and should contact their Community Advisor regarding this procedure.

  9. International students must meet with the International Student Office
to discuss any impact a proposed withdrawal may have on their status.

  10. Refund information for university withdrawals can be found on-line at the Office of the Bursar.

  11. More information regarding the process for requesting a course load reduction for medical reasons or university withdrawal for medical reasons can be found on-line at the Division of Student Affairs.
