The Country School Association of America has awarded the PBS documentary Days of the One Room Schoolhouse the annual CSAA Research and Artistry Award.
The CSAA, headquartered at the Blackwell History of Education Museum, recently awarded a $500 preservation grant to the Big Arm Association to restore a historic one-room country school located near Big Arm, Montana.
Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania will play host to the CSAA's 9th Annual Conference this June. Dr. Jonathan Zimmerman, author of the forthcoming book Small Wonder: The Little Red Schoolhouse in History and Memory, will be the keynote speaker.

On May 22 and 23, the College hosted an enriching conference geared toward professors, students, teachers, activists, researchers and concerned citizens. Manuscripts submitted to conference organizers are being reviewed and edited for special issues of Vitae Scholasticae and Educational Studies.

On Saturday, December 1, 2007, the Blackwell recognized four outstanding educators- Jennifer Wahlers, Donald Adkins, Homer C. Sherman, and John Wredling-during its annual "Honoring Teachers" ceremony, reception, and art exhibit, "Country School Memories."

Quilters at the DeKalb County Nursing Home presented NIU's Blackwell History of Education Museum with a "DeKalb County One Room Schoolhouse Quilt" on Tuesday, October 9, 2007. The attractive quilt features nine squares depicting one-room DeKalb County schoolhouses. The nine schoolhouses represent different regions of the county and are a sampling of the 160 one-room schools that once operated in DeKalb County.

Lucy Townsend, Professor in the Foundations of Education and Curator of the Blackwell History of Education Society and Research Collections, received a $5,000 grant from the International Society of Educational Biography in support of the Educating Women Project. This project is designed to provide support for the mentorship of young scholars interested in pursuing research on the education of girls and women.

The Blackwell unveiled a children's art exhibit titled "Country School Memories." The exhibit features the work of students from Batavia's elementary schools, done under the direction of art teacher Nancy Legner.

The Blackwell Museum has recently established an association for the support and promotion of programming and acquisitions called the Friends of the Blackwell History of Education Museum. Friends will contribute to the Museum through volunteer and/or financial support.
