Procedures for Transcript Evaluation for Type 10 K-12 Reading Specialist Certificate

If you are: Steps you should follow:
If you are a graduate of the NIU M.S.Ed. program in Literacy Education with an emphasis in Reading between 2002 and the present: You do not need to have your transcripts evaluated.  You can simply follow the instructions on the Type 10 K-12 Reading Specialist Certification Application packet.
If you are a graduate of the NIU M.S.Ed. program in Reading before 2002: You should have your transcripts evaluated.  You must submit the following materials for review in a single packet:  Request for Transcript Evaluation for Type 10 K-12 Reading Specialist Certificate form; official copies of all transcripts, including those from NIU; a photocopy of each valid Illinois teaching certificate; and a check for $10.00 made payable to Northern Illinois University.
If you are not a graduate of the NIU M.S.Ed. program in Literacy Education with an emphasis in Reading: You may choose to have NIU evaluate your transcripts.  To do so, you must submit for review in a single packet:  Request for Transcript Evaluation for Type 10 K-12 Reading Specialist Certificate form; official copies of all transcripts; a photocopy of each valid Illinois teaching certificate; and a check for $60.00 made payable to Northern Illinois University.

NOTE:  Transcript evaluations are generally competed within a six-week period.
