  • Biography

    Francesca G. Giordano, Ph.D. is an associate professor of Counseling in the Department of Counseling, Adult and Health Education at Northern Illinois University. She is also a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in the state of Illinois.

    For the past ten years, she has been an administrator and counselor educator with a specialization in mental health and consultation counselor preparation and is the Assistant Department Chair for Counseling, Adult and Higher Education. She is the Vice-Chair Illinois Professional Counselor Licensing and Disciplinary Board and is a board member for the Illinois Mental Health Counselors Association. She is also highly successful workshop presenter and offers workshops for the Illinois Mental Health Counselors Association including an exam preparation workshop for the LCPC license and workshops on Legal and Ethical Issues. She is the Illinois Counseling Association Ethics Committee Chair and the Editor for ICA's Newsletter. She consults with mental health centers in the areas of effective treatment planning, ethical issues, working with adolescents and therapeutic change.

    In 1998, she received the Counselor Educator of the Year award by the American Mental Health Counselors Association, in 2002 she received the Distinguish Service award from the Illinois Mental Health Counselors Association and in 2006 she received the Counselor Educator of the Year award from the Illinois Counselor Education and Supervision Association.

    She teaches community agency courses in the masters in counseling program and human sexuality counseling at the doctoral level.

    Dr. Giordano's research interests include transformational anger, counseling with at-risk, low-income urban populations and sexuality counseling.
