Margaret Asalele Mbilizi

Margaret Asalele Mbilizi has extensive experience and expertise in international education and higher education policy and practice. She held several leadership and executive positions in Malawi including being the Deputy University Registrar, Special Assistant to the State President, Executive Director of the Bakili Muluzi Institute for Social and Economic Transformation, and Director of Higher Education in the Ministry of Education. She has received competitive prestigious awards from the Rockefeller Foundation, the World Bank, and the American Association of University Women. Her research focuses on gender socialization in education, women in higher education, flexible learning systems, and girl's educational access and persistence in developing countries. She has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in foundations of education and currently teaches graduate courses in the administration of higher education, legal aspects of higher education, business management in higher education, student development theory, cultural diversity in adult and higher education, and critical and feminist pedagogy. She is the current director of the Office of International Initiatives in the College of Education.
