  • Biography

    Scott A. Wickman, PhD, is an associate professor and is president of the Illinois Counseling Association. He is also president-elect of the North Central Association of Counselor Education and Supervision as well as a past president of both the Illinois School Counselor Association and the Coalition for Illinois Counseling Organizations. Courses taught include Group Counseling, Practicum, Internship, Advanced Leadership, Advanced Counseling Theories, Consultation and Management of Developmental School Counseling Programs, and co-teaches the Spring/Summer School Counseling Institute.
    He has received the Exceptional Contributions to Teaching award from the NIU College of Education in 2006. He has also received the Beverly Brown Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Field of Group Counseling and in 2005 was named Illinois School Counselor Educator of the Year.
    Dr. Wickman has worked as a school counselor, community counselor, and Spanish teacher

  • Textbooks and Related Works by Professor Wickman

    Dr. Wickman has published research in the areas of conceptual metaphor, conversation analysis, and Carl Rogers with Gloria, including in the Journal of Counseling and Development, Counselor Education and Supervision, and Journal of Media and Culture. He recently published "There's No Place Like Group: The Wizard of Oz as a Counselor Education Tool.

    Ongoing projects include "Oops! I said 'God' in a School," "Fictional School Counselors in the Media," "Familiars in a Strange Land: Online Group Communication," and "Talking the Walk: Metaphors from Hell."
