The goal of counseling is to help people identify problems and concerns, set goals in addressing them, and learn healthy ways of coping with the difficulties of life. The Department of Counseling, Adult and Higher Education is pleased to offer free counseling services to the university community.
Counseling Lab counselors are persons completing their graduate degrees in counseling. They are closely supervised by practicum instructors and by the counselor education faculty. They adhere to strict professional standards
of the counseling practice.
Here are just a few reasons why people seek our counselors
Our services are FREE to all. We provide counseling services to NIU students, faculty, and staff, as well as to the local DeKalb community. We provide general evaluations, assist with relaxation techniques, self-esteem building skills, communication and relational skills, individual and relationship counseling, and the like. We are here to help. When appropriate, we can offer referrals.
Any personal information you share with us will be treated confidentially. Without your written permission no information will be shared outside of the Lab.
