Services Provided

Our services are FREE to all. We provide counseling services to NIU students, faculty, and staff, as well as to the local DeKalb community. We provide general evaluations, assist with relaxation techniques, self-esteem building skills, communication and relational skills, individual and relationship counseling, and the like. We are here to help. When appropriate, we can offer referrals.

Who are the Counselors?

Counseling Lab counselors-in-training are persons completing their graduate degrees in counseling. They are closely supervised by practicum instructors and by the counselor education faculty. They adhere to strict professional standards of the counseling practice.

Confidentiality

Any personal information you share with us will be treated confidentially. Without your written permission no information will be shared outside of the Lab.

Accessing our Services

Clients can be seen by practicum counselors on an appointment basis. You can call the Counseling Lab between: Monday and Thursday 9 - 7 pm and Tuesday and Wednesday 10 am - 2 pm.

Our Staff

The Counseling Lab is composed of Counselors-in-training, who work under the practicum supervision of Counselor Education Faculty, and doctoral counseling supervision students.

Directions

We are located on the 4th floor of Graham Hall on the corner of Annie Glidden Road and Stadium Drive, south of Evans Field House.

The goal of counseling is to assist persons, couples, and families to identify their problems/ concerns, set goals in addressing these, and learn healthy ways of coping with the difficulties of life.
