Technical LiveText FAQs

Question: I'm trying to copy text that I've created in Microsoft Word and paste it into LiveText. When I paste it, either the document is all messed up, or I can't change the formatting the way I want to.

Answer: When you copy text from MS Word a large amount of formatting comes along with the text. This formatting sometimes causes problems when pasting into LiveText. While there are several ways to fix this problem, here is the easiest method.

  1. Select the text in MS Word and click Copy
  2. Click on the Start menu in Windows, Click Run
  3. In the Run dialog box, type notepad and click OK
  4. After a brief pause, the Windows Notepad program will open.
  5. When this program opens, go to Edit | Paste. By pasting the text into notepad, you have removed all of the extra formatting commands from the document.
  6. Now, Select the text in notepad and go to Edit | Copy
  7. Finally, switch to LiveText and paste your text

Question: My instructor shared a document with me that I am supposed to fill out and return. As I look at the document, I notice that the edit option on each section divider is missing. What do I do now?

Answer: Instructors often share documents with students and grant them Viewer rights only. If you need to edit a document to which you were granted Viewer rights only, you must make a copy of that document by clicking the Copy option at the top of the LiveText screen. After clicking Copy, you'll be asked to name the new document. Once named, you will have editing rights for the new file.
