The College's reach extends far beyond the classroom. CoE maintains ties to the surrounding community through an extensive group of programs and initiatives. These outreach efforts are designed to enrich both the faculty and students who participate in them as well as the citizens who ultimately benefit.

Physical Fitness
- Athletic Training/Sports Medicine Partnership
Collaborative effort between NIU and several local schools to provide graduate assistant-athletic trainers
- Developmental Sports Skills Program (DSSP)
Program geared toward children ages 7-10; 1) helps children develop motor skills, learn about healthy lifestyle habits, and improve social interaction
- Fitness Images Today (FIT)
Low-cost exercise program for NIU employees and residents of the surrounding communities
- Motor Development Research Laboratory (MDRL)
Helps children learn to become proficient in the fundamental motor skills that underlie sports and games while building self-esteem
- Moving, Exploring, Experiencing Together (MEET)
Allows pre-school children 18 months to 5 years of age (including children with special needs) to interact and appreciate each other's unique skills
- Oakcrest Retirement Center in Dekalb
A partnership to offer an exercise program for the residents while providing students with clinical experience
- Adapted Physical Activity Research and Teaching (APART)
Community service program that offers individualized instruction to children with unique physical needs
