A greeting to my future students

Hello everyone! My name is Miss Kim, and I am in my last year of school at NIU. I am so stoked that I was chosen to teach in Taiwan – I haven't been out of the country for about 10 years! Traveling to different places around the world is a huge interest of mine, and whenever I have some downtime, I like to look up different places around  the world that I want to visit. Some other things I really enjoy doing when I'm not teaching or at work are going on runs, trying new foods and shopping with friends.

Why I want to be a teacher and what I believe promotes great learning

Teaching has been something that friends and family have told me I should get into ever since about fifth-grade. I started babysitting neighbors and family friends, and I always had such a fun time being able to channel my inner "kid" with the kids I watched while at the same time being a role model for them. I have an older sister who has a severe disability that affects her cognitively and physically, so my nurturing and supportive aspect of who I am to this day really comes from growing up with her. I believe that these two components are essential in promoting great learning because students should have fun with you but, at the same time, they should look to you for guidance and support.

Why I am interested in teaching in Taiwan

Last May, I was chosen to travel to Texas to be a part of a similar type of teaching opportunity with other students at NIU. It really opened my eyes to gaining more experience in working with different ages and grade levels, and when I saw that traveling to Taiwan to teach was open for applications, I immediately jumped on the opportunity! As I said before, traveling is a huge interest of mine, and teaching is my passion, so now I am able to combine the two into this amazing teaching experience for a month over the summer.

My desired superpower and why

Oh man, if I could have any superpower, it would be to fly. Flying would be so fun! I think about how birds have wings and can go wherever and whenever they want. If I could fly, I could get to places super-fast and be able to travel the world at the speed of light.
