At the midpoint of the final semester of your studies:
Obtain a transcript evaluation application, available from the ETRA program advisor (copies of all academic transcripts and valid teaching certificate(s) must accompany this application).
Register for, take and pass the required state certification test for Media, and if not taken previously, the Basic Skills test. To enroll for the Media Test (or the Basic Skills Test), contact the Northern Illinois University Testing Office (815-753-1203). Test scores are sent directly to the state.
Completion of transcript evaluation application and your educational credentials will be evaluated within the College of Education, since NIU has a state-approved certification program. The application and transcripts will be returned to you. Once received, students are responsible for filing these documents with their regional superintendent, either in the county where you live or in the county where you plan to work. Following a successful review of your application and other credentials, the state will issue a Type 10 Certificate that will be added to your present certificate. The certificate will be placed on file at your regional superintendent's office.
