The globe is now one interdependent community. Recognizing the
importance of international understanding and communication, the college
will expand programs around the world and incorporate multicultural and
global perspectives within our preparation programs, and with community
schools in the northern Illinois region
When there is recognition of the increasing diversity of the college population and the need to prepare all students to live in a global society, then one challenge should be to take advantage of the internationally experienced persons already in the colleges--both teachers and international students. The college is willing to draw on the talents of the internationally experienced in substantive knowledge, perceptual understanding, and in interpersonal connections. The CoE Office of International Programs began with its mission being that of incorporating diverse cultural perspectives into the college's teaching, service, and research activities, making information accessible to the college community. As of Fall 2002, Dr. Chris Carger became director of the Office of International and Multicultural Initiatives, the new name for the COE Office of International Programs. Currently, graduate assistants Sridhar Josyula and Luiz Lopes help to facilitate the IMI office's programs. The specific objectives of IMI are to: provide information for faculty, internationalize curricula, assist international students, and provide service to local schools in the area of international education. The program is housed in Graham 331. Office hours and activities are posted on the door of the office and bulletin boards next to GH-331 and GA-130.
