Qualified personnel are always available to assist with exercise programs and provide answers to questions regarding fitness.
The FIT Program is an exercise program for NIU employees and residents of the surrounding communities. The staff, comprised of individuals trained in exercise science, will help individuals start and maintain a scientifically based exercise program.
Over the past decade, recognition of the importance of a physically active lifestyle has increased tremendously. As a matter of fact, in July 1992, the American Heart Association added lack of exercise to its list of primary risk factors for heart disease. This means that an inactive individual has a similar risk of having a heart attack as an individual who smokes, has high blood pressure, or has high cholesterol. In 1996, the Surgeon General noted that regular physical activity reduces the risk of developing some of the leading causes of death in the United States.
When:
Monday-Friday, 6:30-8:00 a.m. and 11:30-1:30 p.m.
Monday and Wednesday nights, 4:45-5:45 p.m. (Please see a program schedule for the exact timing of aerobic classes.)
Cost:
$65 per semester, $120 for fall and spring, $150 for an annual membership. Payroll deduction of membership dues for NIU employees is available.
