The NIU Department of Educational Leadership provides degree and certification programs that prepare students for leadership careers in educational organizations. Our faculty offers their expertise as professional practitioners, scholars, and researchers to develop students' understandings of historical and contemporary issues facing schools and communities. Students come to NIU from suburban, rural, and urban school settings to engage with faculty and other students in the development of their knowledge and skills in organizational behavior, school and district leadership, and supervision and evaluation. A year-long clinical internship provides students with opportunities to serve as leaders and decision-makers, while they enhance their abilities as reflective practitioners. NIU graduates serve across Illinois as elementary and secondary school principals, superintendents, and school business managers, as well as other school and district level leaders.
