Type 75 Certification

What is an IL Type 75 Administration Certificate?

The Type 75 is an advanced administrative certificate required in the state of Illinois to certain administrative K-12 positions. There are four endorsements to this certificate each with its on requisites for eligibility, state approved programs, standards and clinical experience. They are the Superintendent, Principal, Director of Special Education and Chief School Business Official.

Who can obtain an IL Type 75 Administrative Certificate through NIU's programs?

The Principal Endorsement requires an applicant to:

a) Candidate must hold a master's degree awarded by a regionally accredited institution of      higher education that encompasses the coursework in educational administration or
     supervision.
b) Candidate must complete a state approved, Illinois program, approved for the preparation of
     administrators.
c) Candidate shall have two years of full time teaching experience or school service personnel
     experience (type 73) in a public school(s), school under the supervision of the Dept. of
     Corrections/Dept. of Human Services or nonpublic schools recognized by the State Board
     of Education.
d) Candidate must pass state required content area exam(s).

The Chief School Business Official Endorsement requires an applicant to:

a) Candidate must hold a master's degree awarded by a regionally accredited institution of
     higher education.
b) Candidate must complete a state approved, Illinois program, approved for the
     preparation of school business officials and have two years administrative
     experience in school business management
c) Candidate must pass state required content area exam as well as the test of basic skills.
     Certificate Only Application

The Superintendent Endorsement requires an applicant to:

a) Superintendent candidates must hold a master's degree awarded by a regionally accredited
      institution of higher education.
b) Candidate must complete a state approved, Illinois program, approved for the preparation
     of superintendents.
c) Candidate shall have two years of full time administrative or supervisory experience in
     schools. The Superintendent Endorsement shall not be issued as the individual's first
     endorsement on the administrative certificate.
d) Candidate must pass state required content area exam(s)

The Director of Special Education Endorsement requires an applicant to:

a) Candidate must hold a master's degree awarded by a regionally accredited institution of
     higher education that encompasses the coursework in educational administration or
     supervision.
b) Candidate must complete a state approved, Illinois program, approved for the preparation of
     directors of special education.
c) Candidate shall have two years of full time teaching
     experience or school service personnel experience (type 73) in a public school(s), school
     under thesupervision of the Dept. of Corrections/Dept. of Human Services or nonpublic
     schools recognized by the State Board of Education.
d) Candidate must pass state required content area exam(s).

Director of Special Education

This Type 75 Administrative Certificate Endorsement can be completed through a Certificate of Graduate Study and offered in partnership by the TLRN and LEPF departments. The Director of Special Education program consists of one course and one semester hour of internship for five consecutive semesters.
