Cross-Linguistic Language and Literacy Lab

The Cross-Linguistic Language and Literacy Lab is a research laboratory dedicated to conducting high-quality empirical research on language acquisition and literacy development from a broad cross-linguistic perspective. We are investigating various important aspects of language and literacy development, ranging from the emergence of phonological awareness to the acquisition of argumentative discourse, among monolingual children with different first languages and bilingual children acquiring languages of different degrees of typological affinity.

While we take primarily a cognitive science/ psycholinguistic approach to these topics, we are also keenly aware of other perspectives and approaches studying language acquisition and literacy development. Our goal is to produce research and theory that broaden our current understandings of language and literacy development from a broad cross-linguistic perspective in ways that are both scientifically and pedagogically useful.
