General Recommendations & Styles Guidelines for LTRE 530 Case Reports
- Write your first draft as completely and as soon as possible. This will enable you
to ask questions and clarify problems before turning in the final report for grading.
- Be sure to score all assessments correctly. You should plan to double check
them.
- Case reports should be 10-12 pages in length (not counting appendices).
The goal is to be complete yet concise. Remember that case reports will be sent
to parents and to schools (if parent permission is obtained in writing).
- All copies must be perfect.
- All spelling and typing/computer printing must be perfect.
- Abbreviations for tests or NIU are not followed by periods.
- Underline test abbreviations and type in all upper case letters (e.g., BRI).
- Test names should be capitalized and underlined (e.g., Basic Reading Inventory).
- Section headings should be all in uppercase letters with no punctuation.
- Periods are used after Roman numerals.
- Write case reports in the third person. Use the term "the examiner."
- Capitalize School Form and Parent Form.
- Use "student" instead of "child."
- If available, include the level and form of test cited.
- Use hyphens when writing nine-year-old student, fourth-grade student, etc.
- Put quotation marks around examples and place punctuation inside quotation
marks (e.g., "went" for "when.")
- When you first introduce an assessment, include its abbreviation (if appropriate)
in CAPITAL letters and parentheses following the assessment's name.
Underline the abbreviation. For example, Basic Reading Inventory (BRI).
- You will single space the body of your case report. Double space between
sections of the case report.
- Use 1" margins at the top, bottom, right, and left.
- Use bold-face type and italics sparingly.
- Type page numbers at the upper right margin. Do not put a page number on
the first page of the report. Do not put page numbers on the appendices.
