Through the Office of
External Programs, the College of Education offers a variety of
conferences, professional development
experiences, off-campus academic
credit courses, and faculty
programs or consultations. These classes and professional experiences
are offered both for degree-seeking and non-degree students.
Additionally, a three-year
schedule of courses leading to selected degrees in education is offered
at the university's three off-campus education centers, located in Rockford,
Hoffman
Estates, and Naperville,
Illinois. The schedule enables the off-campus student to enroll in a
graduate degree program and to complete most or all of the required
course work at one off-campus location within a three-year period.
The university's off-campus
classes are taught by university faculty and are available to students
meeting the standards and prerequisites of on-campus classes. Degree
completion programs are scheduled off campus for students who choose
to pursue degree work on a part-time basis. In addition to the Education
Centers in Rockford and Hoffman Estates, courses are taught in several
community college districts, including the College of DuPage, Harper
College, Elgin, Joliet, Rock Valley College, and City Colleges of Chicago.
Check the class schedule
for availability. NIU is also a partner with several regional community
colleges for undergraduate
degree completion programs.
Enlisting the instructional
and research expertise of the diverse university faculty, the external
programming staff matches N.I.U. faculty resources with the articulated
needs of practicing professionals in Illinois for faculty
consultation or presentations in northern Illinois. Some of
these experiences are tailored to meet the professional needs of a particular
organization or group. Others are offered more broadly, attracting participants
from across professions, communities, and companies.
