Advising Information

The doctorate in curriculum and instruction is 63 semester hours beyond the master’s degree.

Coursework (48 semester hours) includes:

15 semester hours of common requirements

  • 9 semester hours in research (one quantitative, one qualitative, one additional)
  • 3 semester hours Socio-cultural Analyses of Education
  • 3 semester hours in Learning and Development Theories

6 semester hours required of all majors

  • TLCI 603 – Design of Curriculum and Instruction (to be taken in the first year of the program).
Offered: Spring and Summer
  • TLCI 604 – Research Seminar in Curriculum and Instruction (to be taken in the final semester of coursework).
Offered: Fall and Spring

15 semester hours in the area of curriculum and instruction (to be chosen in consultation with the advisor)

  • TLCI 606 – Curriculum Inquiry

  • TLCI 608 – Principles of Curriculum Development

  • TLCI 634 – Practicum in Curriculum Appraisal
