Special Education (undergraduate)

The B.S. Ed. degree in special education is designed for those who plan to teach students with disabilities at the elementary, intermediate, or secondary level. Completion of department and appropriate requirements leads to certification by entitlement for teaching individuals with learning disabilities, behavior disorders, developmental disabilities, physical disabilities, traumatic brain injury, and autism, as a Learning Behavior Specialist I, with Type 10 Standard Special certification.

Additional Information

Prior to student teaching
  • Successful completion of the LBS I content exam (#155) or Teacher of Students who are Blind or Visually Impaired Content Exam (#150). Please provide a copy of the passing score to the graduate secretary in the Department of Teaching and Learning, Northern Illinois University , DeKalb , IL 60115.
  • Please contact the Clinical office (815-753-9096) up to one year prior to the semester you expect to take your clinical experience. Note: Student teaching clinical assignments are not available during the summer session.
