You probably don't remember me, but I was your student for a brief
time in the spring of 1984. I took two electives in VH that year. I took "Education of the Visually Handicapped Child" from you.
I remember your
class well and liked it. I've spoken of it and of you
from time to time to my family and friends... You are a unique
person and I remember your class well. I am in my high school office as I
write and I notice that I still have the textbook from
your class sitting on my shelf, Teaching the Visually Handicapped."

I received my undergraduate degree from Northern Illinois University in Special Ed-VI. NIU is an excellent program and prepared me well for what I do."

Hi Jodi and Dr. Kapperman!
Congratulations on being selected as one of the best programs at NIU. I
would agree wholeheartedly. I am very happy that I was able to attend the
program;
it allowed me to take my life in a new direction. In my current job, I've
met a number of inspiring people who are blind or visually impaired.

Dear Jodi,
I wanted to write and thank you for all of the tremendous support you have
given to me over the past four years. There were times that I felt discouraged,
and then you would say something amazingly supportive to boost my
confidence and motivation once more. How can I thank you? There really
aren't words enough
to tell you how much I have
appreciated you, but still an attempt must be
made to convey the depth of my gratitude. As an advisor, you have been
supportive
and helped me to stay focused on my goal. As a teacher you have been
exemplary, knowledgeable, professional and understanding, and as a
reference, well,
you certainly must have outdone yourself because I GOT THE JOB! Yes, ---
has offered me a full time TVI position for next year. I am very pleased. Before the interview, I was presented with about thirteen interview
questions, and then was given about ten minutes to review them. ---
and --- took turns
asking the questions, and as I responded, they were busy taking notes. I
knew that this meant that my responses would be evaluated and weighed against
the responses of the other candidates. Even though I felt that I had done
my best to answer the questions, I was not sure how my responses would compare
with those of the other candidates. Then when --- called to offer me the
job, she told me that I had excelled in all areas of consideration, that my
responses
were the most comprehensive and thorough, that the quality of the written
materials that I had presented were top-notch, and that my references were
impeccable.
Since I had put down your name as one of these references, I can only
assume that your faith in me helped to influence their decision. Thank you,
Jodi!

Thank you. I enjoyed this class. Since I have low vision I thought
this course may not be too interesting, but it was very good and
informative.

The reason for my email is I would like to ask you a few questions about
how you got were you are in your career. Overall, I want to grow up and be
you.
Honestly. I really want to know how you were able to become a college
professor and managed to have a family life too. I know this is the start
of my
career but I would like to start taking the steps to learning more about
the field and how to prepare teachers of the blind and visually
impaired. I feel
you do this well and would have some great insights on where to start and
how to get to my goal.

Hi Kapp and Jodi,
I just want to drop you a note to thank you for my copy of Project Math
Access. It looks great! Thank you for your efforts to improve the
lives of the children we serve. You are both definitely appreciated!

I recently received an e-mail concerning the Nemeth Code
Tutorial for the Braille Lite. The e-mail caused me to think
of the program at
NIU and I wanted to say hello to everyone. I really appreciate the
opportunity that the program gave me to work within the field of visual
impairments.
I am currently an Education Coordinator for the Department for the Blind
and Vision Impaired in .... I am a consultant with the public
schools. I work with teachers of the visually impaired, special education
directors and parents of students with visual impairments to ensure that the
students are receiving an appropriate education. This is a very rewarding
career and I am enjoying working in the field. It seems that everything is
going well at NIU and I hope that students can continue to receive the
wonderful opportunity that I did while at NIU. Thanks for
everything.

Hi Jodi, I have to say thank you to Dr.
Kapperman and you! You wouldn't believe how great of a reputation NIU
has. I've met other vision teachers from other
programs, and I can't believe some of the things they do not know! I was
really prepared to start teaching when I was done! Also, when I interview for
jobs it has helped tremendously. People just know what is coming out of
NIU! Thank you so much for the education! Whenever we have an opening
at ... they always look for NIU grads.
Thanks for your help!
