Every incoming student will be assigned an academic advisor in their area of study upon admission to the graduate program. Advisement is given regarding courses in and outside of the major, deficiencies, prerequisites and comprehensive or candidacy exams. As the faculty member most familiar with the student’s professional goals and background, the program advisor also provides assistance with preparing a student’s program of courses, arranging internships, discussing thesis/dissertation topics and selecting a chair of the thesis/project/dissertation committee.
Students are responsible for contacting their advisors, making appointments and communicating with them on a regular basis. It is recommended that the student meet with their advisor at least once per semester.
