My research focus has been on social and developmental issues relevant to the period of adolescence. I am particularly interested in understanding adolescents' subjective experience as they are engaged in the school and community opportunities available to them, and examining the links between these experiences and academic, psychosocial, and civic outcomes. Recent research projects that have emerged out of this general interest include studies of adolescent engagement in community service and adolescents' experience while doing homework. I am currently involved in several research and writing projects that focus on the subjective experience and motivation of male and female students in high school science classrooms.
