I am currently directing or co-directing three research projects. The first is a study of students' subjective experiences during instruction in high school science classrooms. This project, called Science-in-the-Moment, is funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation to Professors Jennifer A. Schmidt and M Cecil Smith
The second project is a series of secondary analyses of data from the 2003 National Assessment of Adult Literacy -- a survey of US adults' literacy skills and practices that was conducted by the National Center for Education Statistics. My studies examine factors that are associated with literacy practices among a variety of subgroups in the adult population.
A third project is devoted to developing and testing the efficacy of an online cognitive tutor, REsearchMentor(c). This tutorial is designed to help education and social science students learn research methods (for thesis and dissertation research). The REsearchMentor(c) project has been funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation to Professors M Cecil Smith, Thomas Smith, and Wei-chen Hung.
