Partnering to Create Post-Pandemic Solutions
For educators and schools, job number one this fall is ensuring that students and staff succeed while simultaneously acknowledging and addressing more than an academic year's worth of reduced instructional time along with the added trauma a pandemic has inflicted on our mental health.

Our mission is to collaborate, engage, and support, faculty, external partners, and students in identifying opportunities and delivering College of Education innovative learning solutions to the region, nation, and world, while focusing on quality service, diversity, and fiscal sustainability.
For organizations with specific professional development needs, the College of Education provides customized workshops and degree cohort programs in the northern Illinois region taught by expert faculty. Such customized learning opportunities create a partnering relationship whereby organizational goals are obtained and college credit may be applied toward an accredited degree program.
Our office can coordinate in-house, district-designed and grant-funded endorsement, credential and/or approval cohorts with your school district. Many programs, with the addition of five or six more courses, can become a complete master’s degree. It is a stackable credential approach to meet the needs/interests of the individual and the school district. If your school district does not have enough teachers to fill a cohort, we will work with your neighboring districts to recruit more teachers to make the cohort viable.
Beyond a traditional tuition approach, NIU can contract with your school district, which is more economical. To fund professional development contract cohorts, school districts often use grants (Title I Grants for Reading, Title II Grants for Teacher Professional Development, Title III Grants for English Language Learners, IDEA Grants for Special Education). We will work with districts to help with your planning, budgeting and grant-writing processes so that your district can successfully offer a customized, grant-funded, contract cohort to grow your own talent.
Professional development non-credit/conference programs provide education professionals the opportunity to attend programs focused on current topics, trends, and methodologies for new and experienced teaching professionals that often provide Professional Development Hours (PDH). Customized professional development workshops, and consultations are available.
Off-campus credit courses and off-campus degree programs offered by the College of Education are available at NIU’s Hoffman Estates, Naperville and Rockford Centers, as well as online, or delivered at the employer’s locations.

Our office will assist faculty and departments with conference and meeting/event planning, coordination, budgeting, implementation and evaluation. We will also assist participants with registration and logistical information and coordinate professional development hours associated with these events.
We coordinate global programs developed in partnership with world-class universities and organizations are customized to meet the needs of our learners. Personalized programs focused on teaching and learning based on research/best practices include double degrees, conferences, institutes, workshops, seminars and camps.
We serve global learners from universities, governments, businesses and elementary-secondary schools who seek an American cultural experience and/or pedagogical perspective on early childhood through higher education. Customized international learning experiences are available for development.
We also coordinate the Educate Global experience as a part of the College of Education’s Educate and Engage Series.
