Physical Activity and Life Skills (PALS) Group
Part of the Collaborative on Adolescent Development, PALS promotes healthy development of children and youth while teaching life skills through physical activity in schools and community organizations.
Our focus on the less-competitive – but richly diverse and multicultural – settings of physical education, after-school programs and summer camps allows us to reach underserved, disadvantaged youth and members of marginalized groups.
We apply the principles of models such as teaching personal and social responsibility, adventure-based learning, sport education and teaching games for understanding to instill skills of leadership, communication, critical thinking and goal-setting in youth.
At the same time, we are conducting research, providing evaluation and consulting services for other programs, training practitioners in our model and informing theory and policy and national and international levels.
