Educational Administration

The Educational Administration program provides degree and certification programs that prepare students for leadership careers in educational organizations. Our faculty offer their expertise as professional practitioners, scholars, and researchers to develop students' understandings of historical and contemporary issues facing schools and communities. Students come to NIU from suburban, rural, and urban school settings to engage with faculty and other students in the development of their knowledge and skills in organizational behavior, school and district leadership, and supervision and evaluation. A rigorous internship in all of our programs provides students with opportunities to serve as leaders and decision-makers, while they enhance their abilities as reflective practitioners. NIU graduates serve across Illinois as elementary and secondary school principals, superintendents, and school business managers, as well as other school and district level leaders.

Testimonials

"My M.S.Ed. program allowed me to work with faculty with a wealth of experience in educational leadership. It really prepared me to think about leading a school building from all perspectives, and I use my NIU preparation in the way that I think about the choices I make."by Maurice McDavid, M.S.Ed., Educational Administration, Principal, Turner Elementary School, West Chicago Elementary School District 33

"My journey with NIU started back in 1994. I have now completed a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, an Ed.S. and currently am in pursuit of my doctoral degree. NIU is a world-class university that looks out for the best interest of its students by providing professors with passion and real-life experiences. I have had the privilege of growing in my professional practice, which has led me to be a better leader for the students, families and staff that I serve at my school."by Tricia Rollerson, Principal, John J. Lukancic Middle School, Valley View Community Unit School District 365
