Danae joined the Counseling and Higher Education department in January 2015 and is enthusiastic about helping graduate students achieve their educational and career goals. She brings her strong knowledge and professional experience in the higher education field to the position. She has worked in a variety of institutions holding positions in admissions, career services, academic advising and athletics.
Prior to coming to NIU, Danae was the assistant athletic director for Eligibility at Chicago State University (CSU). She coordinated all initial, continuing and transfer eligibility for CSU student-athletes. Danae began her academic advising career at the University of Florida (UF) serving as a College of Liberal Arts and Sciences academic advisor. While at UF, she worked with specific student populations that included exploratory, pre-law, pre-health, and first generation students. As the college liaison for student-athletes, she was also responsible for advising student-athletes, academic eligibility certification, and readmissions of former student-athletes. She was active on numerous campus committees including Student Conduct Committee, Common Reading Programming Committee and serving as an instructor for First-Year Florida courses. Building on her experiences at UF, she transitioned to a role as an academic counselor at the University of Tennessee's (UT) Thornton Athletics Student Life Center. At UT, she was responsible for monitoring academic process of the student-athletes on the baseball and women's soccer teams. She also served as the liaison with the Office of New Student Programs and coordinated orientation programming for incoming and transfer student-athletes.
