Department of Curriculum and Instruction

about

One of six departments in the NIU College of Education, the Department of Curriculum and Instruction and its nationally and internationally respected faculty prepare students to earn B.S.Ed. degrees and licensure in Elementary Education and Middle Level Teaching and Learning.

Graduate programs include M.S.Ed. degrees in Curriculum and Instruction; Literacy Education (English as a Second Language and bilingual education focus); and Literacy Education (reading focus). The Master of Arts in Teaching degree enables professionals of all backgrounds to become teachers.

Our terminal degree – the Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction – prepares superior teachers, administrators, service personnel and scholars of education.

We also are home to the Jerry L. Johns Literacy Clinic, which serves the community with literacy services for K-12 students.
