Higher Education

Committed to preparing the next generation of leaders in higher education, the Higher Education and Student Affairs Program offers opportunities to gain degrees at the master's and doctoral levels. Our practice-based approach focuses on the theoretical groundwork, practical application and a contextual understanding of higher education and the diverse students it serves. Our graduates are prepared to tackle the increasingly complex issues found on any college campus – from residential colleges to online institutions.

Graduate Degree Programs

• Master of Science in Higher Education and Student Affairs – 36-credit, in-person program that prepares students for a career in student affairs and higher education.
• Doctor of Higher Education – 54-credit, hybrid weekend program that offers specializations in College Teaching or Higher Education Administration.
• Doctor of Higher Education in Community College Leadership – 54-credit, practice-based, online program with a one-week, face-to-face session each summer at NIU's Naperville center.
