Engage Local Involves Students Regionally

DeKalb and the northern Illinois region are teaming with opportunities to apply what our students are learning: Some of our Athletic Training students travel each October to the Windy City to help provide critical triage services for the 45,000 runners competing in the Chicago Marathon.

Closer to home, students in the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education partner with the Oak Crest Retirement Center in DeKalb to facilitate an exercise program for its residents. Graduate students in our Counseling program provide outstanding services to NIU students, faculty, staff and community members at our Community Counseling Training Center. Our Jerry L. Johns Literacy Clinic provides opportunities for our curriculum and instruction students to deliver reading support services for K-12 students.
