Assistant Professor, Sport Management
Kinesiology and Physical Education
My research primarily focuses on issues of race and gender in sport and society. Pivoting away from my previous research on the minority swimming gap, I am shifting my research agenda to issues of social justice in sport – specifically Black athlete activism and the de-masculinization of athlete activism. I am primarily a qualitative methods researcher; however, I employ a mixed-methods approach from time to time. The following theories regularly inform my research: critical race theory (interest convergence and intersectionality), Black feminist thought, feminist theory, and womanist theory.
