About the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education
The Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education (KNPE) is one of six departments in the College of Education. The department possess a nationally and internationally renowned faculty serving students pursuing Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S.Ed. Physical Education Teacher Licensure) and Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degrees in Kinesiology and Sport Management (coming Fall 2019). The graduate faculty, comprised of top scholars in their fields, teach and mentor graduate students in programs including a Master of Science (M.S.) in Sport Management, Master of Science in Athletic Training (coming 2020), and Master of Science in Education (M.S.Ed.) with specializations in adapted physical education, exercise physiology, pedagogy and curriculum development, and exercise and sport psychology.

NIU is a global institution with academic, research, and familial ties to a number of countries around the globe. Parallel to these ties, our department also has a strong international presence -- with faculty hailing from countries such as South Korea, South Africa, United Kingdom, and Venezuela. Additionally, we have established research collaborations, workshops and exchanges with other countries such as Belize, Canada, China, Finland, Germany, New Zealand, Spain, Sweden and Turkey. As a result, our educational philosophy combines academic and service-based programs that encourage students and faculty to become more aware and more socially responsible citizens of tomorrow's world and work jointly to help solve problems -- both globally and domestically.
