Research

Participating in research allows you to contribute to the field of education while gaining skills that help you stand out to employers. You'll find opportunities in the college and throughout the university to conduct and present your research.

Student Research Symposium

The NIU College of Education's annual Student Research Symposium, held each April in the Learning Center of Gabel Hall, offers all undergraduate and graduate students the chance to showcase their academic inquiries.

Participants can exhibit posters, deliver oral presentations, join in table talks, network with peers and forge connections for potential future projects and collaborations.

Beyond learning more about various research methods and the process, students gain valuable feedback from faculty and their classmates.

As a result, students:

  • Build their capacity to think critically and creatively.
  • Test theories or research methods they hear about in the classroom to develop a rich understanding of how those theories and methods foster effective teaching and learning.
  • Enhance their ability to communicate.
  • Gain skills that transfer into their professional lives and distinguish them from others in the job market.

The call for proposals is issued each January.
