Resource Labs

ETRA prides itself on keeping current with technology and educational trends. Our labs are regularly updated to keep up with the latest technology trends. Currently, we have a Windows lab (Gabel 212), a Mac lab (Gabel 222), and a combined lab with both Windows and Mac computers (Gabel 106). In addition to computers, the labs are equipped with comfortable meeting areas for small and large groups.

The goal of our labs is to prepare our students and give them experiences with any equipment that they may encounter in their work. As such, help and training using the available hardware, software, and tools may be available. In addition, as a community of learners, the ETRA Graduate Student Association (GSA) provides trainings and special topics by those both in and outside our community.

To learn more about our lab space and available resources, please view our resources or contact the ETRA department at 815-753-9339.

3D Printing

In the lab, we have two MakerBot Replicator+ printers. When not being used in classes, these printers are available to ETRA students to gain invaluable hands-on experience. Training sessions are available.

LEGO Robots

One commonly used tool in STEM programs are LEGO robots. In the lab, we have six sets of both kinds. Specifically, there are two kinds depending on complexity: WeDo and EV3. The WeDo robots are similar to normal LEGOs and can be used to create flowers, shake tables, and simple robots. The EV3 are more tailored to robots and have many different motors and sensors. Both kinds of sets are available for use, with LEGO providing excellent training software available on either one of our computers or from the web. We also have training sessions at LearnIT!

Other Technologies

From time to time, we have students or professors who are interested in a specific technology. Every effort is made to get these technology for use in the lab. Past examples have included BBC Micro:Bits, Sphero robots, Arduino boards, and augmented reality tools. If you have a technology you are interested in and it is not available, let us know.
