Timeline

Our research partnership consists of five phases of project activities:

    Planning Phase

    The grant team members from NIU and from Naperville SD203 met virtually on several occasions to finalize the choice and delivery modality of assessment instruments for administration to teachers and students; coordinate the teacher workshop; and plan the activities for delivery of the robotics curriculum to students.

    Training Phase

    Naperville SD203 in-service teachers participated in a workshop delivered by the research collaborator at Naperville SD203 and three NIU research team members to get trained on the content and delivery of the curriculum.

    Data Collection Phase

    Data collection for second- and third-grade included pre- and post-STEM attitude survey, student observations (video recording of three pairs from each classroom), student interviews and teacher interviews. For fourth-grade, data collection included pre- and post-computational thinking tests, student observations (video recording of three pairs from each classroom), student interviews and teacher interviews.

  • 4

    Data Compilation Phase

    ransfer of quantitative data collected using paper-and-pencil instruments into digital format and transcription of audio recordings are processed.

  • 5

    Data Analysis and Publication Phase

    After analyzing compiled data, the outcome will be disseminated in a prominent educational technology research journal.
